Emerging Fashion Designers: Ketchup Und Majo

London. Designer and Photographer Janina Meyer launched fashion label Ketchup Und Majo in 2005 www.ketchupundmajo.com

A play on traditional clothing fabrics. Meyer’s collection recycles bank money bags and airline blankets amongst other non-traditional textiles.

Ketchup Und Majo pieces are produced at the Affentor Manufaktur in Frankfurt Germany. The manufacturing subsidiary of a government funded recycling centre: Werkstatt Frankfurt. Affentor Manufaktur provides training and skills to those who have been unemployed for a long time. Or are unemployable elsewhere.

So many fashion labels provide us with ‘cheap frills’ courtesy of child labour and sweatshop conditions. It is good to see that governments in Europe are offering the next generation of conscientious design talent an alternative.
